Fleet management with Active RFID tags

Active RFID tags can be read from a distance of 150 ft. RFID reader working at 2.4/5.8 GHz can be deployed for toll management, vehicle tracking within large ware houses and distribution centers. some of other applications for which this type of readers can be used are rail car management, wagon management, parking applications in gated communities.

Semipassive or semi active tags last longer than WIFI tags as the tags are not always powered on. Usually they become active once in the read zone of an antenna and after receiving a wake up signal from the reader. Battery inside the active reader gets connected when it receives the wake up signal and become active. So under normal conditions when the tag is not in the antenna field of view, the battery does not drain. That is one reason the batteries of these tags can last upto 5 to 10 years and can be hermetically sealed.
