Just for ROI, if it costs 1 cent to print a barcode label ( with all the printer, label, ribbon stock investment) and if 100,000 barcodes have to be printed to track in a work in progress application, it would cost 1000 dollars. A rugged tag can be bought at 10 to 12 dollars and maybe less if the environment does not demand ruggedness.
