Contact or contactless for National ID?

Contact smart cards have the disadvantage of wear & Tear and the time taken for transaction starts after a contact is established. There is a possibility of the card being held back by mistake. Contactless cards on the otherhand have the advatage of compatitively high transaction rate and thoroughput is high.

China has considere contactless RFID for National ID and is creating infrastructure with contactless readers for verification.
